Story

Calum Smith – Airswift family, intuitive businessman, incredible leader, success story, engaging character known and loved by all who entered his orbit.…and someone who sadly left us way too soon in February 2020.

Calum’s time with Airswift in PNG became a very important part of his story. He formed a long standing and deep connection to the country, shared incredible experiences and friendships and embarked on his leadership journey, building a successful business for Airswift alongside a team in Port Moresby and Australia of whom he was incredibly proud. Calum’s continuous quest for personal development and growth saw him trek across the historic Kokoda Track. It was a life-changing experience, a catalyst for personal growth that changed the way he looked at life.

We could not think of a better way to honour Calum’s memory than supporting the people of his beloved PNG.

KTF – the Kokoda Track Foundation - is an Australian development organisation with one mission: to work with people and communities to improve the lives, livelihoods and futures of Papua New Guineans. Operating in the Kokoda Track catchment region for over a decade, KTF’s programs in health, education, equality and leadership across PNG make real and tangible impact, changing lives and futures.

We simply could not think of a better organisation to support in Calum’s name. We’re asking you to join us.

Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help KTF:

• Stop the spread of COVID-19 in the remote communities along the Kokoda Track

• Break the poverty cycle though education, by educating the region’s future teachers

• Provide support services to women making the brave move to leave domestic violence

• Find and foster PNG's leaders of the future, helping inspirational young women and men realise their potential.

For more on KTF’s work, head to www.ktf.ngo or the links on the right of this page...just click the butterfly.

Thank you so much for helping us honour Calum’s memory.

Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to KTF for their programs in health, education, equality and leadership. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible in Australia. KTF is a member of the Australian Council for International Development and has full accreditation of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Australian NGO Cooperation Program.

KTF (Kokoda Track Foundation)

We're an Aussie NGO that works with people and communities to improve lives, livelihoods and futures of Papua New Guineans, keeping the spirit of Kokoda alive.

Expanding beyond our original focus region of Kokoda in Oro Province, KTF now works with communities across 16 of PNG’s 22 provinces....and we have big plans for 2021 and beyond.

We operate programs in the vital areas of education, health, equality and leadership

Over the past decade, we have delivered a range of projects including the construction of school and aid post infrastructure along and around theKokoda Track, delivery of educational supplies to 20 schools and drugs and medical supplies to 15 aid posts, postings of 15 teachers and over a dozen communityhealth workers, distribution of over 32,000 solar lights across the country, installation of 1,000+ household solar units in the Kokoda catchment, establishment of businesses by Women’s Groups in five provinces and the design and delivery of the Archer Leadership program to find and foster PNG’s future leaders for 10 years.

600+ students currently have a second chance at education, studying Grades 9 to 12 via Flexible Open Distance Education at Kokoda College, Balimo College and the Motu Koita FODE Centre. We have trained 3,685 elementary teachers via our Teach for Tomorrow project and supported the ongoing professional development for teachers via Teach for Tomorrow II, upskilling 220+ teacher trainers. Teach for Tomorrow, the Early Years is developing and implementing Early Childhood Education frameworks in conjunction with provincial Departments of Education. Our network of coaches in Western Province is also working with a core group of 37 elementary teachers to build their teaching skills.
