Story
Dear family and friends,
We would like to ask for your support in helping us raise funds for a cause which is very close to our heart.
On Sunday April 1st, 2007 Ami Olian, a loving husband, father, brother, and dear friend, was hit by a car and killed while riding his bike. Yes- It was 10 long years ago.
In the time that has passed we have cried and we have grieved and we continue to do so. Out of the darkness of the loss we have endured, we decided to create an ongoing initiative working with the Amy Gillett foundation - an organisation committed to raising awareness of the need for cyclists and drivers to share the road - to help other individuals and families avoid suffering the same tragedy.
Ami had a passion for physical activity. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 18 months before his tragic death, he continued to ride, swim, walk and run with much vigour. Exercise was Ami's form of spirituality; a time when he felt most calm and an activity that enabled him to deal with the challenges his Parkinson's presented him. It is fitting then to commemorate Ami's life by asking you to please join us for some exercise and help us raise money for the Amy Gillett Foundation.
With your help -
through donations to the Ami for Amy Fund, and attendance at our annual "Ami for Amy ride/walk/run" event - we wish to raise awareness of cyclists' right to be on the road.
Please visit my fundraising page now: http://inmemory.gofundraise.
All donations to this site are sent directly to Amy Gillett Foundation and you'll get a receipt automatically via email.
Help do even more by 'liking', leaving a 'comment' and 'sharing' my page too. Every little bit helps to reach our target. Please dig deep for this great cause and help make a difference.
Amy Gillett Foundation
The Amy Gillett Foundation (AGF) began its work in 2006 in the name of Amy Gillett, who was tragically killed as a result of being hit by a motorist whilst cycling with the Australian Women’s Road cycling team in Germany in 2005.
The Amy Gillett Foundation's vision is for safe bicycling throughout Australia in order to achieve the ultimate target of zero bicycling fatalities.
The Foundation promotes a safe and harmonious relationship of shared respect between bicyclists and motorists – to highlight the importance of being responsible every time we head out on the road whether we're on two wheels or on four. Why? Because everyone deserves to arrive at their destination safely irrespective of their chosen mode of transport.
