BIG HAIR!
That's the adjective that springs to mind when most people describe me. I love my big hair, but for a while now I've been considering going short for something different.
After my 8yo son Riley's close friend Gideon tragically passed away recently following a courageous battle with brain cancer, I've decided that I'd like to fundraise in his memory, by requesting that my friends and family consider sponsoring my big chop (booked in for June 7th) ....
I’m planning on cutting off AT LEAST 1 inch (2.5cm) for every $100 I raise. In the interests of full disclosure please note that I kindly request the right to stop at 15 inches :)
This is a cause close to my heart and that of my family, so please consider supporting my efforts by making a secure online donation (donations are tax deductible).
A couple of people have asked me whether I would donate my hair (to be made into a wig for those who have lost their hair due to cancer and other illnesses), however I'm very disappointed that my hair isn't suitable for donation due to having been coloured.
Thanks so much for your support! I can’t wait to share my new look with you all (and I can even send you a remnant if you would like !!!).
Best wishes,
Dani
Brain cancer sadly kills more children than any other disease or other types of cancers. Current clinical treatments only help 50% of children, but leave 90% with lifelong physical and mental impairments. 80% of those diagnosed with high grade tumours will lose their battle within five years. For 30 years brain cancer has remained critically underfunded and as a result, survival rates have barely changed in that time. The mission of the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation is to battle paediatric brain tumours and support brain matters in the areas of research, care and development – to fund the science to end brain cancer and support patients in the meantime. SUPPORTING BRAIN MATTERS
The Robert Connor Dawes (RCD) Foundation - In memory of Robert Connor Dawes. We support brain cancer matters in the areas of Research, Care and Development.
RESEARCH:
Brain tumour research is on the verge of exciting breakthroughs. We want to enable researchers to further understand and more completely treat brain tumours, including earlier detection, surgery and post surgery treatments (radiation & chemotherapy).
CARE:
Supporting young people with rehabilitation therapies and home assistance commonly not covered by insurance.
DEVELOPMENT:
Inspiring the next generation of brain cancer practitioners & researchers. Through awareness programs, Phd Scholarships and youth engagement activities, we're putting brain matters on the map.
