In Memory of Betty Morris

Story

Betty, Bett, mum, nan - was an extraordinary woman who had an enormous zest for living life to it’s full. Her care and love of people saw her bond with everyone she encountered, and her generosity of conversation, storytelling, laughter, and sense of fun left you feeling on a high - that was our vibrant mum!

Our mum was born in the 40’s, grew up in Shepparton and was one of 5 children, who lived on an orchard in her youth. In her 20’s she met and married Lyndsay and went to India (Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh) to work as missionaries – that’s what you did in those days – they ran a hospital and a school.

On their return from India mum and dad lived at various places throughout Victoria while we were growing up; Shepparton, Melbourne, Mt Macedon/Woodend and then Geelong. Mum and dad, moved to the Mornington Peninsula in the late 80’s – settling in South Frankston where mum worked for the Royal District Nursing – working the nights shift in palliative care.

Then in the mid-1990’s they moved to Daylesford to chase mum's dream of setting up a B&B. They had a wonderful life in the community of Daylesford. Sadly, dad passed away after a long fight with Melanoma in 2000. Mum continued to move forward, and set up and ran a successful B&B business in Daylesford.

Mum travelled to Europe, Japan and New Zealand. Only just last year she stepped off a cruise from New Zealand and the year prior she had travelled across the Nullarbor solo - in her van!

Tragically, signs of Motor Neurone Disease surfaced in mid 2019 - and mum's deterioration was rapid. - a horrible and debilitating disease, it took away the use of mum's arms and legs, her ability to eat and swallow and tragically on Friday 18 September 2020, her breath.

We're grateful that in the final stage of living, mum was surrounded by the incredible love of her family and many many friends and family close and far away sending messages of love and support - thank you!

There is no cure for MND - research is needed so families do not go through what we did. Please donate in memory of our mum - Betty, Betsy, Bett, nan, nanny panny . . .

Thanks so much for your support..

Love,

Andrew, Kiran and Sharon, daughter-in-law Indi, sons-in-law Dave and Tim, and grandchildren Saskia, Jonah, Jasper, Kitty, Barney and Liam. xoxoxoxo
