In Memory of Buu

Story

Buu was a kind and hard-working family man who was loved by many for his gentle and fun nature. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with younger onset dementia at the age of 60. It’s sad that this is the time he should have been planning a wonderful retirement with his wife, Hai. However, this much deserved chapter was sadly taken away. Those who have witnessed someone suffer from dementia can understand how cruel this disease really is.

It would be 8 years since he was first diagnosed. It’s been a struggle, to look back and reflect on his long battle with dementia. In one way, if there’s any glimmer of goodness out of this horrible disease, is that he had let himself go gently, that we only lost bits of him at a time, and showed us even till just recently, he had persevered to keep the family together.

I think it’s safe to say that we all feel an overwhelming sense of relief and closure that he has now joined his ancestors, freed from the debilitating body that had trapped an energetic, caring human being inside. We will miss him. His grandchildren Hugo and Harriet will miss him. We bid him farewell, but shall talk about him regularly and forever he shall be remembered in our lives.

All funds raised will support the work of Dementia Australia to provide vital support services for people living with dementia, their families and carers. These services include counselling, support groups, education and training. Dementia Australia offered my family an abundance of resources and counselling and we are forever grateful.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your donation.

Love, Hai, Josh & Drew.
