In Memory of Indrani Perera

The Perera family is raising funds in memory of our treasured wife and much loved mother, Indrani Perera. 

Indrani is best remembered for her effervescent smile, tenacity, and leadership. She lead, she nurtured, she cared and she loved. Family was the centre point of her life. She touched the lives of many people.

Sadly, she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2017. Indrani was cleared in 2018, but the cancer returned with a vengeance the next year. Triple negative breast cancer accounts for about 15% of breast cancers. It is an aggressive type of breast cancer, and at present, there are no targeted treatments available.

She tried everything possible to fight this disease. She spent countless hours researching ways to beat this cancer. Her oncologist would brace herself for a barage of questions when Indrani was in the room. Organic food, almond kernels and chicken soup were staples of her diet. She walked five kilometres a day until a few months before her death. She maintained a sliver of hope when all else seemed to be lost. She lobbied for an MRI on the week of her passing, even whilst her body was clearly letting her down. That very week, she was seen at a West Coast Eagles function, talking non-stop for two hours, and walking unaided. She attended her daughters football game just one week before she left us.
